#11 DAY 1: WASHOUGAL TO MARYHILL STATE PARK

Yesterday... Sunday
 March 19th, 2017
DEPARTURE DAY

I laid in bed for a while, happy to be almost ready to go and so warm and cozy in our bed. I was thinking about what adventures lay ahead and wondering- had I packed everything we needed?

While Steve loaded up the remaining gear, I opened the Instant Pot and make a speedy recipe (per Alex's request). Apple crisp.  It turned out great and we decided to bring the pot along. After seeing a friend's facebook post about how awesome it is, we decided to add one to the motorhome. In a couple days, we will try our first recipe for dinner (part of Alex's school work today will be looking for a good recipe and making our shopping list.)

  It turned out great!
Alex ate two massive bowls for lunch while we packed.

This is a picture of the massive poster map we have hanging in our laundry room at home.  It is of the Colorado Plateau. The jagged snake-like form you are looking at is the Grand Canyon. Pretty incredible, isn't it?  In a few days, we will be in Kanab, Utah... it's located north of the Canyon, on the Utah/Arizona border. Our current mission is to make it there to stay & visit Best Friends' Animal Society's Animal Sanctuary.  So excited!

Our boy, Titus, was ready to leave the house yesterday... we've been out of town quite a bit these past two months & he's stayed in town with Uncle Jon/Gramma. I think he's thrilled to be coming with us this time ♡

Good bye Mt Hood... see you in the late Spring!
Sierra was ready to go!
Goodbye Washougal River...
As we were driving over Bridge of the Gods, my phone rang (a miracle, seeing as how my cell has been working on/off with calls & messages)... it was our good friends Laura, Peter, Owen, & Sonja- We were all at the Bridge of the Gods' toll both at the exact same time! Just going different directions! Too funny! After we waved hello/goodbye, we continued down the road to Hood River, stopping at Safeway to stock up the fridge/freezer & to have dinner in the parking lot. I am so in love with our home on wheels (by the way, we've named it Gumby!) It's so easy to set up for/after road travel. Love love love! ♡
The kids each picked out a new stuffed animal because
... why not?!

Hood River Safeway

Right before making dinner. We thought the generator was broken & had a moment of slight panic. Then, Steve discovered he had not plugged the generator in correctly.
(We don't technically need the generator, but it provides air-conditioning for when we get into hot weather.) All was restored and our picky eater (Sierra) was guaranteed her staple food- Costco dinosaur chicken nuggets. I swear, we need to buy stock in the nugget company!

We found this fun camping shower curtain & had to have it!

Laura Kelly's famous turkey/salami/provolone sandwich
was for dinner.  We call it the LKS... Laura Kelly Sandwich

We finally made it to MaryHill State Park around 10 p.m.,
set up beds, and everyone passed out.
