I'm feeling super happy to have reconnected again with a dear old friend... Alison ♡ We think our Moms met way back in the 70's, and we have memories dating back to when we were wandering into nettle filled trails across from her house, playing Barbies together, and camping at Mt Rainier with our families. I also think the first time I got gum stuck in my hair was at her house. Funny the things we remember.
Our friendship spans over at least 37 years, and she is only six days older than me. It is really something special for me to reconnect with her... she's seen me in my ups and downs and we have many many memories.
As we sat eating breakfast today (without kids! Thank you Steve and Sean for watching the kiddos), I couldn't believe that, A: We are approaching our mid-forties, B: We have our own children and are parents... aren't we still 15?, and C: It feels as if absolutely no time has passed since we last saw each other. There is a deep authenticity within our friendship. I can let it all hang loose and feel supported, loved, and encouraged. Alison, I am so grateful for your friendship and love.
As we shared a few tears, my heart felt full and I made a commitment to see her in person at least once a year. A quick flight between Phoenix and Portland is all it takes!
And, seeing our kids make their own connections and have fun... what a blast! Albert is such a sweet and fun boy. Alex and Sierra had a blast with him, and were thrilled to spend another weekend playing and adventuring.
Here are a few pictures: Albert and Sierra taking some down time. They couldn't agree on a movie so Albert watched Jungle Book while Sierra watched Magic School Bus on her ipad. Alex helped Alison prep dinner by cutting up mushrooms, and we built some Legos (or maybe 'I' built some).
And, of course, the kids swam swam swam! They were like popsicles, which felt great since I thought it was hot outside.
And, we did the best thing ever! Yes, I absolutely LOVE going through a car wash. Alison has a sweet car wash by her house that she took us to... I personally think it is better than going to Disneyland. Seriously!
And the kids loved it too!
We all had an awesome dinner together and hit the hay pretty early on Saturday night. When Sunday rolled around, Alison and I snuck away for our Mama Breakfast and before we bid goodbyes, we took the kids on one more adventure together... out for ice cream... and back to the car wash for one more cleaning! It was hilarious and fun! Best $12 spent on a car wash ever!
The kids had to argue for a minute about what car wash to get. We set high goals and went for Platinum.
I love these kids!
Alison also checked her mailbox and we received a gift from some of our favorite friends back home. Awesome stickers, a card, and a special music CD for the kids. Thanks Sonja, Owen, Laura, & Peter... we love you too!
We will enjoy rocking out as we cruise the roads!

When it finally came time to leave for our next destination, Sierra gave hugs and began to cry. "I am so happy," she said. She was all choked up. I love my girl. And, when we pulled away, both kiddos asked when we can go back to visit our friends. So sweet.
We will be back sooner than later, I promise!
